Day 199: Face Paint Before the Narrensprung

On the morning of Rosenmontag in Rottweil, three friends, Talea (A), Carlo (B) and Mina (C), are getting ready in Talea's flat for the Narrensprung, the town's famous Fasnet parade.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Mina, halt doch mal still! Sonst wird dein Fuchs noch ein Hund.

    Mina, keep still, will you! Otherwise your fox is going to turn into a dog.

    Beeilt euch, der Narrensprung geht um acht los! Ich will vors Rathaus.

    Hurry up, you two, the Narrensprung starts at eight! I want to get in front of the town hall.

    Da stehen doch alle Touristen. An der Ecke am Schwarzen Tor sieht man mehr.

    That's where all the tourists stand. You see more from the corner by the Black Gate.

    Und du bleibst sitzen, sonst lasse ich dich halb geschminkt gehen!

    And you stay put, or I'll let you go out with your face half done!

  5. B

    Na gut, dann eben an die Ecke. Malst du mir auch was ins Gesicht?

    All right, the corner it is, then. Will you paint something on my face too?

  6. C

    Jetzt auf einmal? Dann lass dir von Talea einen Hund malen!

    Oh, now all of a sudden? Then get Talea to paint you a dog!
