Day 198: Baked or Fried?

In a restaurant in Erlangen, Alicia (A), a young woman who is trying to eat more healthily, asks the waiter, Joscha (B), about the dishes on the menu.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.

    Entschuldigung, wie wird der Fisch denn zubereitet? Ich versuche gerade, gesünder zu essen.

    Excuse me, how is the fish cooked? I'm trying to eat more healthily at the moment.

    Der wird in Butter gebraten, aber der Koch macht ihn auch im Ofen.

    It's fried in butter, but the chef can do it in the oven as well.

    Gern! Und die Pommes kommen bestimmt aus der Fritteuse, oder?

    Yes, please! And I bet the chips come out of the deep fryer, don't they?

  4. B

    Leider ja. Nehmen Sie doch lieber die Ofenkartoffeln mit Salat, die haben weniger Fett.

    I'm afraid so. Why not have the baked potatoes with a salad instead? They've got less fat.

  5. A

    Perfekt, so machen wir's. Und Ihr Apfelkuchen, wie wird der gemacht?

    Perfect, let's do that. And your apple cake, how is that made?

  6. B

    Der wird auch im Ofen gebacken. Also fast so gesund wie Salat!

    That's baked in the oven too. So it's almost as healthy as a salad!
