Day 187: Missed His Granddaughter's Birthday

In the stairwell of their building in Fürth, Lothar Kleinert (A), an older man, stops his neighbour Linda Hübner (B).

How to study this lesson 3 steps

    Oh, Mrs Hübner, I missed my granddaughter's birthday yesterday.

    Oh nein! Dabei hatten Sie sich doch so darauf gefreut.

    Oh no! And you'd been looking forward to it so much.

    Mein Zug nach München ist ausgefallen, und mit dem nächsten wäre ich erst abends angekommen.

    My train to Munich was cancelled, and with the next one I wouldn't have got there until the evening.

    So ein Pech! War die Kleine sehr enttäuscht?

    What bad luck! Was the little one very disappointed?

    Und wie. Ich hätte halt doch den Fernbus nehmen sollen.

    She certainly was. I should have taken the coach after all.

    Nächstes Mal fahre ich Sie zum Bahnhof, dann nehmen Sie einfach einen Zug früher.

    Next time I'll drive you to the station, and then you can just take an earlier train.
