Day 85: Bikes on the Train to Denmark

At home in Hanover, Sonja (A) and Tilo (B) plan an autumn cycling holiday on the Danish coast with their daughter Lotta (C).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.

    Diesmal reservieren wir die Fahrradplätze rechtzeitig. Letztes Mal standen wir drei Stunden in Hamburg.

    This time we're booking the bike spaces in good time. Last time we stood around in Hamburg for three hours.

    Weil kein Zug Platz für unsere Räder hatte, was für ein Chaos! Lässt sich das auch online buchen?

    Because no train had room for our bikes, what a mess! Can that be booked online too?

    Ja, zum Glück. Im Fernverkehr sind Räder grundsätzlich nur mit Reservierung mitzunehmen.

    Yes, luckily. On long-distance trains, bikes can only be taken with a reservation, full stop.

    Aber diesmal fahren wir mit der Fähre, das habt ihr versprochen!

    But this time we're going on the ferry, you promised!

    Das ginge über Sylt, von List fährt eine Fähre nach Rømø.

    We could go via Sylt: there's a ferry from List to Rømø.

    Dann radeln wir aber erst zwanzig Kilometer bis List und danach noch mal vierzig. Ist das für dich machbar?

    But then we'll cycle twenty kilometres to List first and another forty after that. Is that doable for you?

    Klar! Mit Opa bin ich im Sommer sechzig gefahren, sogar bei Gegenwind.

    Of course! I did sixty with Grandad in the summer, even into a headwind.
