Day 86: Where Old Pills Belong

At a pharmacy in Bad Kreuznach, Irmgard Becker (A), an older customer, brings a bag to Duc Nguyen (B), a young pharmacist.

How to study this lesson 3 steps

    Hello. I found this bag while I was clearing out my late sister's flat.

    Mein Beileid, Frau Becker. Oh, da ist ja einiges längst abgelaufen.

    I'm sorry for your loss, Mrs Becker. Oh, quite a lot of this is long past its expiry date.

    Das dachte ich mir schon. Meine Nachbarin meinte, ich solle die Tabletten einfach im Klo runterspülen.

    I thought as much. My neighbour said I should just flush the pills down the loo.

    Um Himmels willen, bloß nicht! Viele Wirkstoffe lassen sich in der Kläranlage nicht herausfiltern.

    Good heavens, please don't! Many active ingredients can't be filtered out at the sewage works.

    Oje. Je länger ich darüber nachdenke, desto mehr Sünden fallen mir ein.

    Oh dear. The longer I think about it, the more sins come back to me.

    Tabletten sind eigentlich im Restmüll zu entsorgen, aber lassen Sie die Tüte ruhig hier.

    Strictly speaking, pills go in the general waste, but you're welcome to leave the bag here.

    Wie nett! Dann bringe ich nächste Woche gleich meinen eigenen Arzneischrank vorbei.
