Day 6: Solar Panels on a North Balcony

In a small solar shop in Freiburg, Finn (A), a young customer, asks the owner, Mr Brenner (B), about a balcony solar kit.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Ich suche ein Balkonkraftwerk. Seit meiner letzten Stromrechnung will ich unbedingt sparen.

    I'm looking for a balcony solar kit. Ever since my last electricity bill, I've been determined to save.

    Gute Idee. Liegt Ihr Balkon denn nach Süden?

    Good idea. Does your balcony face south, then?

  3. A

    Nach Norden. Aber da ist es ziemlich hell, obwohl die Sonne nie direkt draufscheint.

    North. But it's quite bright out there, even though the sun never shines straight onto it.

  4. B

    Hell reicht leider nicht. Ehrlich gesagt rate ich Ihnen davon ab, obwohl ich gern eins verkaufen würde.

    Bright isn't enough, I'm afraid. To be honest, I'd advise against it, even though I'd be happy to sell one.

    Schade. Und was mache ich, solange ich da wohne?

    Shame. So what do I do for as long as I live there?
