Day 50: No School Because of the Storm?
At his grandmother's house in Oldenburg, Karl (A), a primary school pupil, tells his grandmother Doris (B) what he has just heard on the radio.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

There, did you hear that? The newsreader says school's only cancelled on the islands.

Eine Warnung gebe es nur direkt an der Küste, hat er gesagt. Also pack deinen Ranzen trotz des Windes schön wieder ein.
He said the warning's only for places right on the coast. So wind or no wind, you can pack your school bag back up.
