Day 163: Flood Warning on the Moselle
In Trier, Linda (A) and her adult daughter Fenja (B) watch a regional news report about a flood warning on the Moselle, where Fenja's grandmother lives in a village.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

But there's an official warning, Mum. I'm driving to Trittenheim in a minute to help Grandma clear out the cellar.

She isn't on her own, either. According to Grandma, the neighbours carried everything up ages ago.

And you're only telling me now? I'm sitting here worrying as if she were already on the roof.

Sie fragt nur, ob du trotzdem zum Kaffee kommst. Beim Streuselkuchen braucht sie nämlich dringend Hilfe.
She's only asking whether you're still coming for coffee. She urgently needs help with the streusel cake, you see.
