Day 162: Sent Away Twice
In the queue at the service desk of an electronics store in Mannheim, Tomasz (A), a man with a laptop that won't switch on, gets talking to Nika (B), a young woman returning a TV remote.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.

It won't switch on any more. First the receipt was missing, then they said the manufacturer was responsible.

I know the manufacturer excuse. But for two years it's the shop that's liable, not the manufacturer.

Dann war also alles, was man mir hier erzählt hat, Unsinn? Bis heute hat man das Gerät weder repariert noch umgetauscht.
So everything they told me here was nonsense? To this day, they've neither repaired nor exchanged the thing.

Mir hat erst eine E-Mail an die Filialleitung geholfen: entweder Ersatz oder Geld zurück, innerhalb von zwei Wochen.
The only thing that helped me was an email to the store manager: either a replacement or my money back, within two weeks.
