Day 164: A Seminar Paper as Instagram Posts
At the University of Marburg, two students, Enno (A) and Stine (B), come to see Professor Imke Rautenberg (C) about their seminar paper on fake news.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

A
Frau Rautenberg, wir hätten eine etwas ungewöhnliche Bitte zu unserer Hausarbeit über Falschmeldungen.
Professor Rautenberg, we have a slightly unusual request about our seminar paper on fake news.
-
B
Wir würden unsere Ergebnisse gern als Instagram-Serie präsentieren, damit auch Schüler etwas davon haben.
We'd like to present our findings as an Instagram series, so that school pupils get something out of them too.
-
C
Instagram statt Hausarbeit? Ob so etwas wissenschaftlichen Ansprüchen genügt, bezweifle ich ehrlich gesagt.
Instagram instead of a seminar paper? To be honest, I doubt that something like that meets academic standards.
-
A
Es soll ja sowohl wissenschaftlich sauber als auch verständlich sein. Und um Jugendliche zu erreichen, müssen wir nun mal dahin, wo sie sind.
It's meant to be both academically sound and easy to understand. And to reach young people, we simply have to go where they are.
-
C
Damit treffen Sie leider den Nagel auf den Kopf. Gut, versuchen Sie es, aber unter einer Bedingung.
Unfortunately, you've hit the nail on the head there. All right, give it a try, but on one condition.
-
B
Welche denn? Die Hashtags hätten wir schon, und die Bilder sind fast fertig.
What is it? We've already got the hashtags, and the pictures are almost done.
-
C
Jede Behauptung braucht eine Quelle, die man direkt im Beitrag sieht. Und benotet werden die Quellen, nicht die Likes.
Every claim needs a source that people can see right there in the post. And it's the sources that get marked, not the likes.
