Day 166: The Closed S-Bahn Tunnel

At their office in Frankfurt, Sascha (A) runs into his colleague Jamal (B) as they both arrive an hour late.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.

    Oh, you're only just getting in too? I thought I was the only one today.

    Frag nicht. Der S-Bahn-Tunnel war gesperrt, und ich musste ewig auf den Ersatzbus warten.

    Don't ask. The S-Bahn tunnel was closed, and I had to wait ages for the replacement bus.

    Dagegen ist meine Ausrede echt peinlich: Ich konnte meinen Fahrradschlüssel nicht finden.

    Compared to that, my excuse is really embarrassing: I couldn't find my bike key.

    Eine ganze Stunde lang? Da hast du dich bestimmt total geärgert.

    For a whole hour? You must have been really annoyed.

    Und wie! Dabei steckte er die ganze Zeit unten im Fahrradschloss.

    You bet! And it was in the bike lock downstairs the whole time.

    Weißt du was? Wir sagen dem Chef einfach, wir haben uns im Ersatzbus getroffen.

    Tell you what: we'll just tell the boss we met on the replacement bus.
