Day 130: No Reply Since Munich

In their parents' kitchen in Paderborn, Piet (A) talks to his older brother Marco (B) about his best friend Tomasz, who has moved to Munich to study.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.

    Tomasz meldet sich gar nicht mehr, seit er in München studiert. Ich bin echt enttäuscht.

    Tomasz hasn't been in touch at all since he started studying in Munich. I'm really disappointed.

    Im Ernst? Wie oft hast du ihm denn geschrieben?

    Seriously? How many times have you messaged him, then?

    Bestimmt zwanzig Nachrichten. Er liest alles, antwortet aber nie.

    Twenty messages at least. He reads everything but never answers.

    Und wie lange willst du noch warten? Ruf ihn doch einfach mal an!

    And how much longer are you going to wait? Just give him a ring!

    Anrufen? Das macht doch keiner mehr, seit es Sprachnachrichten gibt.

    Ring him? Nobody does that any more, not since voice messages came along.

  6. B

    Genau deshalb! Solange du nur schreibst, kann er dich ganz bequem ignorieren.

    That's exactly why! As long as you only text him, he can ignore you without any effort.
