   Good evening, Mrs Wegener. That Velo, the bike that's been parked in the stairwell since Monday, is yours, isn't it?

   Ja, mein Fahrrad, pardon, mein Velo. Im Keller war kein Platz mehr, und hier auf dem Absatz stört es doch niemanden.

   Yes, my Fahrrad, sorry, my Velo. There was no room left in the cellar, and it's not bothering anyone here on the landing.

   A permit for a shoe cupboard! In Cologne there'd have been an anonymous note stuck on my bike long ago, adorned with three exclamation marks.

   Hier sagt man einem so etwas höflich ins Gesicht. Und ich hätte einen Vorschlag: Mein Platz im Velokeller ist frei, seit ich nicht mehr fahre.

   Here we tell people that sort of thing to their face, politely. And I have a proposal: my space in the bike cellar has been free since I stopped cycling.

   Not a centime, but do you know anything about tablets? My daughter gave me one so I could see my grandchildren in Canada, and so far all they've seen is my chin.
