   So, Mathilda, dein Angebot liegt auf dem Tisch: Du mähst heuer den ganzen Sommer jeden Samstag den Rasen und willst dafür vierzig Euro im Monat.

   Right, Mathilda, your offer is on the table: this year you'll mow the lawn every Saturday all summer, and you want forty euros a month for it.

   Vierzig Euro für einen Rasen, den der Bub von den Hubers in zwanzig Minuten mäht? Unterm Strich stünde da pro Stunde rund das Doppelte vom Mindestlohn, gell?

   Forty euros for a lawn the Hubers' boy mows in twenty minutes? The bottom line would be about twice the minimum wage per hour, right?

   Dafür mähe ich gründlich. Der Bub hat letztes Jahr den eigenen Gartenschlauch mitgemäht, und Qualität hat nun mal ihren Preis.

   But I mow properly. Last year that boy mowed his own family's garden hose along with the grass, and quality comes at a price.

   Not so fast, young lady. Under section 1619 of the Civil Code, a child living at home has to help around the house, and without sending a bill.

   Thirty, with a written contract and a rain supplement: if it rains on a Saturday, the grass grows twice as fast, so that's five euros extra.
