   Endlich! Seit der Preiserhöhung bekomme ich jeden Tag Beschwerdezettel zugesteckt. Vier Euro achtzig für Nudeln mit Tomatensoße, das bedarf wirklich einer Erklärung.

   At last! Ever since the price went up, people have been slipping me complaint notes every day. Four euros eighty for pasta with tomato sauce really needs some explaining.

   Ich hab die Schlagzeile schon: „Mensa-Abzocke: Caterer kassiert, Schüler zahlen drauf“. Und der Schulleiter hat sich beim Tag der offenen Tür noch der günstigsten Mensa im ganzen Landkreis gerühmt.

   I've already got the headline: 'Canteen Rip-off: Caterer Cashes In, Pupils Pay'. And at the open day the head was still boasting of the cheapest canteen in the whole district.

   Staff the same, energy the same, rent for the kitchen the same. But here: 'Switch to fifty per cent organic and locally sourced meat, extra cost per meal 1.02 euros.'

   Fünfzig Prozent Bio? Moment mal, genau das hat doch die Schülervertretung im Frühjahr gefordert, mit über dreihundert Unterschriften.

   Und der Slogan der Petition stammt von uns, ich weiß: „Gesundes Essen muss uns einen Euro mehr wert sein.“ Den hab ich mir sogar selbst ausgedacht.

   And the petition's slogan came from us, I know: 'Healthy food must be worth a euro more to us.' I even came up with it myself.

   Dann hat uns der Caterer beim Wort genommen, und zwar auf den Cent genau. Eigentlich schenkt er uns sogar noch zwei Cent pro Essen.

   Damit entbehrt meine Abzocke-Schlagzeile jeder Grundlage. Und ich wette, die Mail kam vom Schulleiter persönlich, damit wir uns selbst auf die Schliche kommen.

   So my rip-off headline is completely without foundation. And I bet the email came from the head himself, so that we'd catch ourselves out.

    Wir nehmen uns der Sache trotzdem an, nur andersrum und ohne was zu beschönigen. Eine Schülerzeitung, die bloß über die Fehler der Erwachsenen schreibt, ist keine Zeitung, sondern ein Kummerkasten.

    We're still taking the story on, just the other way round and without glossing over anything. A school paper that only writes about the grown-ups' mistakes isn't a newspaper, it's a complaints box.

    Dann lautet die Schlagzeile: „Wir wollten Bio und haben die Rechnung gleich mitgeliefert bekommen.“ Und darunter die Unterschriftenliste, mein Name ganz oben.

    Then the headline reads: 'We wanted organic and got the bill delivered with it.' And underneath, the list of signatures, with my name right at the top.
