   „Anlässlich der diamantenen Hochzeit unserer Großeltern laden wir herzlich ein ...“ Klingt nach Standesamt, aber gut. Nur fehlt auf deiner Gästeliste jemand, und du weißt genau, wen ich meine.

   'On the occasion of our grandparents' diamond wedding, we cordially invite you...' Sounds like the registry office, but fine. Only there's someone missing from your guest list, and you know exactly who I mean.

   Onkel Helge? Angesichts dessen, was er Weihnachten 2006 veranstaltet hat, kommt der mir nicht auf die Liste, und zwar aus Prinzip.

   Uncle Helge? Given the scene he made at Christmas 2006, he's not going on my list, and that's a matter of principle.

   Wir waren damals fünf, Natalia! Du erinnerst dich doch nur an die Gans auf dem Teppich, nicht daran, worum es eigentlich ging.

   We were five at the time, Natalia! All you remember is the goose on the carpet, not what it was actually about.

   Um die Gärtnerei ging's, das weiß jeder. Mit Opa über den Verkauf zerstritten, ist er ohne Mantel aus dem Haus gestürmt und hat nie wieder angerufen.

   It was about the market garden, everyone knows that. Having fallen out with Grandad over selling it, he stormed out of the house without his coat and never called again.

   Opa hat aber auch nie angerufen. Zwanzig Jahre lang totgeschwiegen, ist so ein Streit irgendwann nur noch Gewohnheit, und die beiden werden nicht jünger.

   But Grandad never called either. Hushed up for twenty years, a quarrel like that ends up as nothing but habit, and neither of them is getting any younger.

   Schön gesagt, Herr Familientherapeut. Aber Mama hat an dem Abend geweint, und das hab ich ihm nie verziehen, auch wenn ich erst fünf war.

   Die Tabelle ist nicht lächerlich, die ist notwendig. Moment, Oma schreibt in die Familiengruppe: „Bezüglich eures Onkels: Ich habe ihn letzte Woche selbst angerufen, er kommt.“

   The spreadsheet isn't ridiculous, it's necessary. Hang on, Grandma's writing in the family group: 'Regarding your uncle: I rang him myself last week, he's coming.'
