Day 97: A Rumour in the Warehouse
Late one evening on a balcony in Duisburg, Tristan (A), who works in a logistics warehouse, has a beer with his older brother Pascal (B), who works for the same company.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

Ein Kollege soll dem Teamleiter erzählt haben, dass ich jeden Tag früher gehe.
Apparently a colleague told the team leader that I leave early every day.
-
B
Ausgerechnet du, mit deinen ganzen Überstunden? Wer behauptet denn so was?
You, of all people, with all your overtime? Who's saying that?
-
A
Angeblich der Neue aus der Frühschicht. Seitdem guckt mich der Teamleiter an, als hätte ich was geklaut.
The new guy from the early shift, supposedly. Ever since, the team leader has been looking at me as if I'd stolen something.
-
B
Der muss dich verwechselt haben. In den Warnwesten sieht von hinten jeder gleich aus.
He must have mixed you up with someone. In those hi-vis vests everyone looks the same from behind.
-
A
Kannst du nicht mal mit dem Teamleiter reden? Ihr esst doch jeden Mittag zusammen.
Couldn't you have a word with the team leader? You two have lunch together every day.
-
B
Lieber nicht, sonst heißt es, du schickst deinen großen Bruder vor. Das lässt sich in einem Gespräch klären.
Better not, or people will say you're hiding behind your big brother. That can be cleared up in one conversation.

A
Na gut, dank der Stempeluhr ist das leicht zu beweisen. Und dem Neuen schenke ich eine Brille.
All right, with the time clock that's easy to prove. And I'll get the new guy a pair of glasses.
