Day 95: Swapping Saturdays at the Ice-Cream Stand

At an ice-cream stand on the promenade in Warnemünde, where both have summer jobs, Oskar (A) and his classmate Alina (B) have to share out the August weekend shifts.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.

    The boss wants to know by Friday who's working which weekend in August.

    Kannst du am Samstag der Hanse Sail für mich einspringen? Da ist die Hochzeit meiner Cousine.

    Can you cover the Saturday of the Hanse Sail for me? It's my cousin's wedding.

    Ausgerechnet dann? Da ist hier die Hölle los, und ich hatte mir den Tag freigehalten.

    That day, of all days? It's absolute chaos here then, and I'd kept the day free.

    Sorry, aber ich hatte ihr schon im Winter zugesagt, lange vor dem Plan.
