Day 83: Lost at the Kieler Woche

In the crowds of the Kieler Woche in Kiel, Merve (A), a young woman, finds Ronja (B), a little girl in tears.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.

    Hey, what's the matter? Have you lost your mum?

    Sie stand gerade noch am Riesenrad, und auf einmal war sie weg.

    She was standing by the Ferris wheel a minute ago, and then all of a sudden she was gone.

    Keine Panik, zeig mal dein Armband. Da steht eine Nummer drauf, die rufe ich jetzt an.

    Don't panic, show me your wristband. There's a number on it, and I'm going to call it now.

    Aber Mama sagt, ich soll nie mit Fremden mitgehen.

    But Mum says I must never go anywhere with strangers.

    Recht hat sie, wir bleiben hier, bis sie kommt. Sie hat am Telefon gesagt, sie sei gleich da.

    She's right, we'll stay here until she comes. She said on the phone she'd be here any minute.

    Ich mache eine Ausbildung bei der Polizei. Sobald ich fertig bin, suche ich auf Streife jeden Tag verlorene Mamas.

    I'm training to be a police officer. Once I've finished, I'll be out on patrol every day, looking for lost mums.
