Day 68: Two Offers and a Climbing Wall

At a climbing hall in Hamburg, where Henrik (A) sets routes on the side, he tells his friend Serkan (B) about two job offers.

How to study this lesson 3 steps

    I've got two job offers: one from the city and one from a start-up in Berlin.

    Glückwunsch! Aber so richtig glücklich siehst du nicht aus.

    Congratulations! But you don't look all that happy.

    Doch. Die vom Start-up meinten, das Gehalt sei Verhandlungssache und ich könne sofort anfangen.

    I am. The start-up people said the salary was negotiable and I could start straight away.

    Klingt gut. Und bei der Stadt hättest du eine sichere Stelle bis zur Rente.

    Sounds good. And with the city you'd have a safe job until you retire.

    Eben. Ich muss mich halt entweder für Sicherheit oder für Abenteuer entscheiden.

    Exactly. I've just got to decide: either security or adventure.

  6. B

    Mal ehrlich: Du freust dich weder auf die Stadt noch auf Berlin. Du strahlst nur, wenn du hier Routen schraubst.

    Let's be honest: you're not looking forward to the city or to Berlin. The only time you light up is when you're setting routes here.
