Day 21: Headphones With a Broken Left Side

After an economics lesson at a secondary school in Kiel, Luca (A), a pupil, asks his teacher, Mr Jansen (B), for advice about his new headphones.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Herr Jansen, bei meinen Kopfhörern ist nach drei Wochen die linke Seite ausgefallen.

    Mr Jansen, the left side of my headphones packed up after three weeks.

    Ärgerlich. Und was sagt der Händler dazu?

    That's annoying. And what does the seller say?

    Nichts. Ich habe zwar erst nach zehn Tagen geschrieben, aber dafür schon dreimal.

    Nothing. Admittedly I didn't write until ten days later, but I've written three times since.

    Du hättest sofort reklamieren sollen. Hast du wenigstens die Rechnung noch?

    You should have complained straight away. Have you at least still got the receipt?

  5. A

    Die schon, aber den Karton hätte ich wohl nicht wegwerfen sollen.

    That, yes, but I probably shouldn't have thrown the box away.

  6. B

    Der ist egal. Heb jede Mail auf und verlang entweder eine Reparatur oder neue Kopfhörer.

    The box doesn't matter. Keep every email and demand either a repair or new headphones.
