Day 175: Trains and a Ferry to Juist
At home in Hamelin, Lydia (A) explains to her son Kjell (B) how they will get to the island of Juist for their holiday.

Right, Kjell: to catch the ferry in Norddeich, we have to leave at seven and change trains in Hanover.

At seven? Why don't we just drive right onto the island?

Es gibt keine Brücke, und Autos sind auf Juist grundsätzlich verboten. Sogar die Koffer kommen mit dem Pferdewagen.
There's no bridge, and cars aren't allowed on Juist as a rule. Even the suitcases go by horse and cart.

Echt, mit Pferden? Aber wieso so früh, die Fähre fährt doch bestimmt jede Stunde?
Really, with horses? But why so early? The ferry must go every hour, surely?

No, it depends on when the tide's in. If you miss the 12.30, you might have to wait a whole day.
