Day 139: Everyone Away in August

In their shared flat in Dresden, Sofia (A) and Tamara (B), who are both going away in August, open the door to their landlord, Martin Pohl (C).

How to study this lesson 3 steps

    Kommen Sie rein, Herr Pohl. Entschuldigen Sie das Chaos, Tamara plant gerade ihre Interrail-Reise.

    Come in, Mr Pohl. Sorry about the mess, Tamara's planning her Interrail trip.

    Vier Wochen quer durch Europa. Aber was führt Sie zu uns?

    Four weeks right across Europe. But what brings you here?

  3. C

    Im August wird endlich die Heizung erneuert. Dafür müssen die Handwerker ein paar Tage in Ihre Wohnung.

    The heating is finally being replaced in August. The workmen will need to get into your flat for a few days for that.

    Ausgerechnet im August? Während Tamara durch Europa fährt, mache ich einen Sommerkurs in Wien.

    In August, of all months? While Tamara's travelling round Europe, I'm doing a summer school in Vienna.

    Tja, und während Sie beide weg sind, kommt keiner rein. Einen Zweitschlüssel habe ich nämlich nicht.

    Well, and while you're both away, nobody can get in. I don't have a spare key, you see.

    Das lässt sich doch lösen, indem wir unseren Schlüssel bei Frau Schubert im Erdgeschoss abgeben. Die gießt ohnehin unsere Pflanzen.

    Surely we can sort that out by leaving our key with Mrs Schubert on the ground floor. She's watering our plants anyway.

    Frau Schubert? Perfekt, dann wird garantiert kontrolliert, ob die Handwerker pünktlich anfangen.

    Mrs Schubert? Perfect, then someone will definitely be checking that the workmen start on time.
