Day 120: A Balcony Solar Panel for Two

On her balcony in Würzburg, Isabell (A) shows her friend Aylin (B) the app for the small solar panel she has just put up.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Look at the app: 3.2 kilowatt hours since this morning, from just two panels!

    Nicht schlecht. Und das merkt man wirklich an der Stromrechnung?

    Not bad. And you really notice that on your electricity bill?

    Klar, fast alles, was die Module erzeugen, verbrauche ich direkt: Kühlschrank, Waschmaschine, Laptop.

    Of course, I use almost everything the panels produce straight away: fridge, washing machine, laptop.

    So was will ich auch. Das Einzige, worüber ich mir Sorgen mache, ist mein Vermieter.

    I want one of those too. The only thing I'm worried about is my landlord.

    Fragen musst du ihn schon, aber seit 2024 darf er nur noch mit gutem Grund Nein sagen.

    You do have to ask him, but since 2024 he can only say no if he has a good reason.

    Und falls er trotzdem einen findet, lade ich ihn zum Grillen zu dir ein, natürlich mit Sonnenstrom.

    And if he still finds one, I'll invite him round to yours for a barbecue, on solar power, of course.
