Day 119: An AI Drafts Mum's Complaint
In Osnabrück, Jutta (A) tells her adult daughter Miriam (B) about a letter from her health insurer, and Miriam gets out her laptop.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

A
Die Krankenkasse will mir die Osteopathie nicht erstatten. Wie legt man da überhaupt Widerspruch ein?
The health insurer won't refund my osteopathy sessions. How do you even appeal against that?
-
B
Gib mal her. Mit dem KI-Programm ist es nicht schwer, so einen Brief zu formulieren.
Give it here. With the AI program it's not hard to word a letter like that.
-
A
Von mir aus. Aber falls das Ding etwas erfindet, unterschreibe ich nicht.
Fine by me. But if that thing makes anything up, I'm not signing.
-
B
Das hält sich doch nur an deinen Bescheid. Siehst du, der Entwurf ist schon fertig.
It only goes by the insurer's letter. See, the draft's already done.
-
A
Na gut, ich prüfe trotzdem jede Zeile. Aber wo steht denn, wie unverschämt die Frau an der Hotline war?
All right, I'll still check every line. But where does it say how rude the woman on the helpline was?
-
B
Nirgends, und das bleibt auch so, falls du dein Geld wirklich wiederhaben willst.
Nowhere, and it's staying that way, if you actually want your money back.
