Day 11: The Cat Needs a Passport Too

In their kitchen in Nuremberg, Claudia (A) and Markus (B) have big news for their nine-year-old daughter Mila (C).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Mila, setz dich mal kurz. Ich arbeite ab Januar zwei Jahre in Zürich.

    Mila, sit down a moment. From January I'll be working in Zurich for two years.

    Und wir ziehen alle mit. Die Wohnung dort ist sogar schon gemietet.

    And we're all moving with her. We've even rented the flat there already.

  3. C

    Ich will aber nicht weg, obwohl die Alpen bestimmt toll sind. Und meine Freundinnen?

    But I don't want to leave, even though the Alps are probably great. And what about my friends?

  4. A

    Die können dich besuchen. Deine neue Schule ist schon ausgesucht, direkt am See.

    They can come and visit you. Your new school's already been chosen, right by the lake.

  5. C

    Na gut. Ist Minkas Pass auch schon fertig?

    Oh, all right. Is Minka's passport ready too?

  6. B

    Der ist längst ausgestellt, und geimpft ist sie auch. Minka war als Erste startklar.

    It was issued ages ago, and she's had her jabs too. Minka was ready before any of us.
