Day 60: Thirty People for One Flat

At a crowded flat viewing in Darmstadt, Lars (A) gets talking to Judith (B), a young woman looking for a flat, in the queue on the stairs.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Thirty people for one flat! Is it always like this?

    Leider ja. Und das, obwohl sie so klein und teuer ist.

    I'm afraid so. And that's even though it's so small and expensive.

    Dafür wurde das Bad renoviert, und die Küche wird erneuert.

    Still, the bathroom has been renovated, and the kitchen's being redone.

    Sie wissen ja gut Bescheid! Wollen Sie hier einziehen?

    You're well informed! Are you thinking of moving in?

    Ich nicht, meine Tochter. Sie studiert ab Oktober hier.

    Not me, my daughter. She's starting university here in October.

    Dann ist sie ja meine Konkurrenz! Viel Glück, aber nicht zu viel.

    Then she's my competition! Good luck, but not too much.
