Day 211: A Party Through the Wall
On Monday morning at an architecture office in Dessau, Gesine (A), the head of department, notices that her new colleague Philippa (B), who has just moved to Dessau, looks exhausted.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

There was a party next door until four. You could hear every word through the wall.

Anscheinend nicht. Ich hätte wohl selbst klopfen sollen, aber als Neue im Haus wollte ich nicht gleich meckern.
Apparently not. I probably should have gone and knocked myself, but as the newcomer in the building I didn't want to start complaining straight away.

Well, and with walls that thin, too. Someone really should have designed that better.
