Day 205: Nine Hundred Euros for One Room

In Stuttgart, Magnus (B), a young man looking for a flat, shows his grandfather Eberhard (A) an advert on his phone.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.

    Nine hundred euros for one room? Nobody can afford that!

    Tja, so viel zahlt man hier inzwischen. Und das für zwanzig Quadratmeter.

    Well, that's what you pay here these days. And that's for twenty square metres.

    Warum suchst du denn nicht außerhalb der Stadt? Da ist alles viel günstiger.

    Why don't you look outside the city? Everything's much cheaper there.

    Wegen der langen Fahrt, Opa. Ich will nicht jeden Tag ewig im Zug sitzen.

    Because of the long journey, Grandad. I don't want to spend ages on the train every day.

    Ewig? Mit der S-Bahn bist du von Esslingen in zwanzig Minuten am Hauptbahnhof.

    Ages? On the S-Bahn you can get from Esslingen to the main station in twenty minutes.

    Echt? Dann kriege ich da statt eines Zimmers vielleicht eine ganze Wohnung.

    Really? Then instead of one room, I might get a whole flat there.
