Day 2: A Bench Below the Bastei

On the Malerweg near Dresden, Lena (A) is hiking with her grandmother Helga (B) on the way up to the Bastei viewpoint.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Come on, Grandma, it's not far to the viewpoint now.

    Ich muss mich kurz ausruhen. Da ist doch eine Bank.

    I need a quick rest. There's a bench right there.

    Aber wir müssen uns beeilen, sonst verpassen wir den Sonnenuntergang.

    But we have to hurry, or we'll miss the sunset.

    Ach, wir haben noch zwei Stunden Zeit.

    Oh, we've still got two hours.

    Stimmt. Setzen wir uns und essen erst mal unsere Brote.

    True. Let's sit down and have our sandwiches first.
