Day 157: Aqua Fitness for a Bad Knee
In Lübeck, Christiane (A) tries to talk her mother-in-law, Gudrun (B), into a new course at the swimming pool.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

Im Schwimmbad gibt's jetzt Wassergymnastik. Das hat dir doch dein Arzt geraten!
There's aqua fitness at the swimming pool now. That's just what your doctor advised!
-
B
Ach nee, das geht nicht, weil mir das Knie so wehtut.
Oh no, I can't, because my knee hurts so much.
-
A
Genau deshalb! Frau Brodersen von nebenan geht übrigens auch.
That's exactly why! Mrs Brodersen from next door is going too, by the way.
-
B
Die Brodersen? Na, wenn die das schafft, schaffe ich das schon lange.
That Brodersen woman? Well, if she can manage it, so can I, easily.
-
A
Prima, dann melde ich dich an. Die Hälfte der Plätze ist schon weg.
Great, I'll sign you up, then. Half the places have already gone.
