Day 111: Felt Pads for a Creaky Floor

At a DIY store in Dortmund, Nico (A), a young man who lives in an old building, asks the sales assistant, Corinna (B), for felt pads and a rug.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.

    Hello, I need felt pads and a really thick rug.

    Die sind gleich hier. Hat sich etwa jemand beschwert?

    They're just over here. Has someone been complaining, by any chance?

    Ja, meine Nachbarin von unten. Sie sagt, ich laufe wie ein Elefant.

    Yes, my neighbour downstairs. She says I walk like an elephant.

    Tja, im Altbau hört man alles. Einen Teppich hätten Sie gleich beim Einziehen hinlegen sollen.

    Well, in an old building you hear everything. You should have put a rug down as soon as you moved in.

    Stimmt, das wäre einfacher gewesen. Jetzt muss ich alle Möbel verschieben.

    True, that would have been easier. Now I've got to shift all the furniture.

  6. B

    Dafür hört sie dann garantiert nichts mehr. Außer Ihrer Musik vielleicht.

    But then she definitely won't hear a thing any more. Except your music, maybe.
