Day 6: An Extra in Sunday's Tatort

At a pharmacy in Münster, Renate (A), a regular customer waiting for her prescription, chats with Julian (B), the young pharmacist, about last Sunday's Tatort, an episode of the TV crime series set in their city.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Haben Sie am Sonntag unseren Tatort gesehen? Die Apotheke darin sah aus, als wäre die Zeit 1955 stehen geblieben.

    Did you see our Tatort on Sunday? The pharmacy in it looked as if time had stood still in 1955.

    Da muss ich Ihnen etwas gestehen: Der Statist mit der Hornbrille hinter dem Tresen war ich.

    I have a confession to make: the extra with the horn-rimmed glasses behind the counter was me.

    Das waren Sie? Dann erklären Sie mir mal, warum man den Neffen nicht sofort verhaftet hat.

    That was you? Then explain to me why they didn't arrest the nephew straight away.

    Weil er unschuldig war! Der ständig ins Bild gerückte Neffe sollte Sie nur auf die falsche Fährte locken.

    Because he was innocent! The nephew they kept pushing into the shot was only there to throw you off the scent.

    Unschuldig? Dann muss ich kurz vor der Auflösung auf dem Sofa eingenickt sein.

    Innocent? Then I must have nodded off on the sofa just before the big reveal.

    Das passiert den Besten. Soll ich Ihnen verraten, wer es war?

    It happens to the best of us. Shall I tell you who did it?

  7. A

    Bloß nicht! Geben Sie mir schnell meine Tabletten, bevor Sie sich verplappern.

    Don't you dare! Just give me my tablets quickly, before you let it slip.
