Day 18: A Passport Before the Exchange
In their living room in Krefeld, Elias (A), sixteen, tells his father Markus (B) that the paperwork for the passport he needs for a school exchange in Canada is sorted.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.

Halb so schlimm, das Foto wird im Bürgerbüro gemacht. Aber so ein Pass dauert bis zu sechs Wochen.
No big deal, they take the photo at the office. But a passport can take up to six weeks.

Six weeks? By the time the passport comes, my plane will long since have taken off without me!

Not with an express passport, that's ready in three or four days. It costs extra, though.
