Day 152: A Learning Agreement for Seville
During office hours at the University of Passau, Linh (A), a law student about to spend a term in Seville on Erasmus, brings her learning agreement to Dr Sylvia Aigner (B), the lecturer who coordinates exchanges.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Genau der, und ausgerechnet der sollte mir als Pflichtmodul anerkannt werden. Das Prüfungsamt soll ja schon Kurse abgelehnt haben, weil zwei ECTS-Punkte fehlten.
That's the one, and of all courses, it was supposed to count as a compulsory module for me. They say the examinations office has turned courses down before because they were two ECTS credits short.

Das ist leider kein Gerücht. Aber im Katalog aus Sevilla steht auch Handelsrecht, ebenfalls mit sechs ECTS-Punkten.
Sadly, that's no rumour. But the Seville catalogue also lists Commercial Law, likewise worth six ECTS credits.

Den habe ich auch gesehen, nur wird er auf Spanisch unterrichtet. Mein Zertifikat ist B2, und Jura auf Andalusisch stelle ich mir sportlich vor.
I saw that one too, only it's taught in Spanish. My certificate is B2, and law in Andalusian sounds like quite a challenge.

B2 reicht erfahrungsgemäß. In Sevilla angekommen, gehen Sie in die erste Sitzung, und notfalls ändern wir das Learning Agreement in den ersten fünf Wochen noch.
In my experience, B2 is enough. Once you've arrived in Seville, go along to the first class, and if need be we can still change the learning agreement in the first five weeks.

Gut, dann trage ich Handelsrecht als Ersatz ein. Brauche ich dafür eigentlich auch eine Unterschrift vom Prüfungsamt, oder reicht Ihre?

Mine's enough; I sign it off as coordinator. Once it's signed by you, me and Seville, it's binding on the examinations office too.
