Day 147: The Eclipse She Saw in Spain
Back at school in Bayreuth after the summer holidays, Leana (A), a pupil, catches her teacher, Mrs Ströbel (B), before class to tell her about her trip to Spain.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Just before sunset it got cool, and the birds suddenly went quiet. My dad cheered as if he'd won the lottery.

Natürlich nicht, wir hatten Spezialbrillen dabei. Mit einer normalen Sonnenbrille geht das nicht, es sei denn, man will sich die Augen ruinieren.
Of course not, we had special glasses with us. You can't do it with ordinary sunglasses, unless you want to ruin your eyes.

Ganz einfach, wie im Kochbuch: Man nehme einen Schuhkarton, steche in eine Seite ein winziges Loch und klebe gegenüber ein weißes Blatt ein.
Easy, it's like a recipe: take a shoebox, poke a tiny hole in one side and stick a white sheet of paper inside, opposite it.
