Day 238: Night Train to Vienna
At the DB travel centre in Schwerin, a customer (A) wants to book the night train to Vienna with Jette (B), a young assistant.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

Ich möchte den Nachtzug nach Wien buchen, am zweiten August.
I'd like to book the night train to Vienna, on the second of August.
-
B
Betten gibt es leider keine mehr, nur noch Liegeplätze.
I'm afraid there are no beds left, only couchettes.
-
A
Liegeplätze? Ich möchte nicht liegen, sondern richtig schlafen!
Couchettes? I don't want to lie down, I want to sleep properly!
-
B
Da schläft man auch richtig! Nur nicht allein, sondern zu sechst.
You sleep properly there too! Just not alone, but six to a compartment.
