Day 9: Placement School Confirmed, Paper Missing

At the university in Würzburg, Carina (A), a student teacher, asks her lecturer, Ms Seidel (B), to check her papers for her school placement.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Ms Seidel, I wanted to have my placement papers checked.

    Die Schule ist zugeteilt, das Formular ist unterschrieben. Fehlt nur noch Ihr Führungszeugnis.

    The school's been assigned and the form's signed. All that's missing is your criminal record certificate.

    Beantragt ist es längst, aber das Bundesamt hat es noch nicht verschickt.

    I applied for it ages ago, but the federal office hasn't sent it out yet.

    Die Frist endet leider am Freitag. Lassen Sie mich mal schauen, was ich machen kann.

    The deadline's on Friday, I'm afraid. Let me have a look and see what I can do.

    Das wäre wirklich nett. Sobald es da ist, reiche ich es nach.

    That would be really kind. As soon as it comes, I'll hand it in.

  6. B

    So, Ihre Frist ist bis Ende Oktober verlängert. Bis dahin schafft es sogar das Bundesamt.

    There, your deadline's been extended to the end of October. Even the federal office can manage it by then.
