Day 40: Not Just a Print

At a framing shop in Weimar, Dominik (A), a young customer, shows Beate (B), the framer, a picture he bought at a flea market.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a German word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native German, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Gern, aber es muss wirklich nichts Teures sein.

    Of course, but it really needn't be anything expensive.

    Das ist kein Kunstdruck, sondern ein Original. Unten rechts ist es mit Bleistift signiert.

    That's not an art print, it's an original. It's signed in pencil at the bottom right.

    Ein signiertes Original für fünf Euro? Da hat der Verkäufer aber nicht aufgepasst.

    A signed original for five euros? The seller can't have been paying attention.

    Sieht so aus. Den Billigrahmen vergessen wir, das Blatt gehört hinter Museumsglas.

    Looks like it. Let's forget the cheap frame: this belongs behind museum glass.
