Day 26: Who Burnt the Sauce?

After a late shift at a restaurant in Fürth, Jan (A), a young cook, tells his friend David (B), who works in the same kitchen, that the head chef blamed him for a burnt sauce.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.

    The head chef pinned the burnt sauce on me, even though I wasn't even at the stove.

    Na ja, bei vollem Saal und zwei fehlenden Kollegen stand er halt unter Strom.

    Well, with a packed dining room and two colleagues missing, he was under a lot of pressure.

    Trotzdem! Zur Strafe spül ich morgen allein alle Töpfe.

    Even so! As a punishment I'm washing all the pots on my own tomorrow.

    Hm, wegen der Soße... Weißt du noch, wie du kurz draußen warst?

    Hm, about the sauce... Remember when you popped outside for a bit?

    Fünf Minuten. Moment, willst du etwa sagen, dass du...?

    Five minutes. Hang on, are you trying to say that you...?

  6. B

    Ich hatte die Flamme hochgedreht. Morgen sag ich's dem Chef, und die Töpfe spül ich.

    I'd turned up the heat. Tomorrow I'll tell the chef, and I'll wash the pots.
