Day 116: Saving Since Easter for a Bike

At the kitchen table in Rosenheim, Bennet (A), a boy saving up for a mountain bike, shows his father Marco (B) how much pocket money he has put aside.

How to study this lesson 3 steps

    Respekt, und das seit Ostern! Was kostet denn das Mountainbike, von dem du ständig redest?

    Well done, and all since Easter! So how much is the mountain bike you keep going on about?

    400 Euro. Bei dem Tempo hab ich's spätestens nächstes Jahr zusammen.

    400 euros. At this rate I'll have it saved by next year at the latest.

    Nächstes Jahr? Ich bin heute mal großzügig: Wenn du bis zu den Sommerferien weiter sparst, zahle ich die Hälfte.

    Next year? I'm feeling generous today: if you keep saving until the summer holidays, I'll pay half.

    Echt? Dann kann ich mir ja noch den teuren Helm mit Lautsprecher leisten.

    Really? Then I can afford the fancy helmet with built-in speakers as well.

    Du tust ja so, als ob du Millionär wärst. Erst mal fehlen dir noch fünfzig Euro.

    You're acting as if you were a millionaire. For now you're still fifty euros short.

    Fünfzig Euro? Solange Oma im Garten Hilfe braucht, sind die schnell verdient.

    Fifty euros? As long as Grandma needs help in the garden, I'll earn that in no time.
