   Mina, gut, dass du Pause hast. Die Visite ist durch, und ich hab nur Bahnhof verstanden: irgendwas mit Erguss, dann hat der Oberarzt „schauen wir mal“ gesagt und war weg.

   Mina, good thing you're on your break. The ward round's over, and it was all Greek to me: something about an effusion, then the consultant said "we'll see" and was gone.

   „Schauen wir mal“ ist bei Dr. Hollmann ein gutes Zeichen, keine Panik. Infolge der Operation hat sich Flüssigkeit im Knie gesammelt, daher die Schwellung, und das ist völlig normal.

   With Dr Hollmann, "we'll see" is a good sign, don't panic. As a result of the operation, fluid has collected in the knee, hence the swelling, and that's completely normal.

   Normal? Er hat auch was von Punktieren gesagt! Ich lasse mir doch keine Nadel ins Knie stechen, nur weil es ein bisschen dick ist.

   Normal? He said something about draining it too! I'm not having a needle stuck in my knee just because it's a bit swollen.

   Morgen wird dein Knie mittels Ultraschall kontrolliert, und nur wenn viel drin ist, bekommst du es punktiert. Das ist harmloser als das Ziehen der Drainage.

   Tomorrow your knee will be checked by ultrasound, and only if there's a lot of fluid in it will you have it drained. That's less of an ordeal than having the drain pulled out.

   Apropos Drainage: Das Ding zieht bei jeder Bewegung, als hinge ein Staubsauger an meinem Knie. Wann bin ich es endlich los?

   Speaking of the drain: the thing pulls every time I move, as if there were a hoover attached to my knee. When do I finally get rid of it?

   Die bekommst du heute Nachmittag gezogen. Hinsichtlich der Entlassung würde ich aber eher mit Montag rechnen: Nach Kreuzband-OPs sagen die Ärzte gern Freitag, und am Ende wird's doch Montag.

   You'll have it taken out this afternoon. As for being discharged, though, I'd expect Monday rather than Friday: after cruciate ligament operations the doctors like to say Friday, and in the end it's Monday after all.

   Er hat aber Freitag gesagt, da bin ich mir sicher. Ich kann's dir sogar vorspielen: Ich habe die ganze Visite mit dem Handy aufgenommen.

   But he said Friday, I'm sure of it. I can even play it to you: I recorded the whole ward round on my phone.

   Heimlich war da gar nichts, ich habe vorher gefragt. Dr. Hollmann hat nur gegrinst und gesagt: „Gern, zwecks Qualitätssicherung, wie bei jeder Hotline.“

   There was nothing secret about it, I asked first. Dr Hollmann just grinned and said: "By all means, for quality purposes, like any hotline."

    Na dann spiel mal ab. Hm, tatsächlich: Freitag, sofern die Schwellung zurückgeht. Und was murmelt er da ganz am Ende?

    Go on then, play it. Hm, you're right: Friday, provided the swelling goes down. And what's he mumbling right at the end?
